Limited posts over the next few days

I will be in New York City for two debates. Intelligence squared is putting a debate on Tuesday night at Rockefeller University. On Wednesday at 4 PM, I will be doing a debate for the Federalist Society at NYU Law School.

I was wondering why you hadn't sent out any new editorials lately... When you have time, could you address the role of the credit rating organizations like Standard & Poors and Moody's in the current financial meltdown? After watching the House hearings it looks to me like they have a true conflict of interest that enabled Freddie and Fannie to sell mortgage backed securites with a triple A rating when they should have been a "B" at best. What is the best solution to making the ratings agencies independent? Getting paid by the obligors of the investments and having to compete with each other for market share just isn't working and, it appears to me, contributed heavily to this financial chaos.
