Gun Owners not welcome to serve in Obama's Administration?

CNS has the story here:

President-elect Barack Obama’s transition team is showing its hostility toward lawful firearm owners by “weeding out” job applicants who own firearms themselves, a Second Amendment group says.

The Illinois State Rifle Association (ISRA) notes that question 59 – part of a 63-item questionnaire given to Obama administration job applicants – asks for information about firearms owned by the applicant and his or her family.

Found in the questionnaire’s “Miscellaneous” section, question 59 reads, “Do you or any members of your immediate family own a gun? If so, provide complete ownership and registration information. Has the registration ever lapsed? Please also describe how and by whom it is used and whether it has been the cause of any personal injuries or property damage.”

Other questions in the Miscellaneous section ask about the applicant’s postings on Facebook and MySpace Web sites; health and medical status; associations with groups that could be used against the applicant; and any other information that could prove embarrassing to the applicant.

Although it’s not clear that gun ownership would disqualify a job applicant, ISRA says question 59 shows the Obama team’s “distaste” for firearm owners.

"Question 59 provides clear insight into how Obama and his people perceive firearm owners," said ISRA Executive Director Richard Pearson. “The questionnaire poses a number of questions asking the applicant to reveal any unethical activities, or embarrassing Internet chats, then wraps up by asking if anyone in the applicant's family owns a firearm. Obviously, Obama feels that owning a firearm is akin to talking dirty in Internet chat rooms.”

Pearson says the attitude is not surprising, given that Obama – as an Illinois State senator -- voted for SB1195, which included a provision calling for gun owners to be registered in the same manner as sex offenders.

"Once again, we have to ask ourselves just what candidate Obama was talking about when he said he has 'respect' for the 2nd Amendment," said Pearson. . . . .

I am not so sure this is a "no gun owners" question but instead a "no gun law violations" question.

Just to avoid embarrassment when Obama proposes Illinois style restrictions for everyone.

After all, one can't require abusive registration requirements of everyone if you own staffers are already guilty of violations of Illinois law.

"If so, provide complete ownership and registration information. Has the registration ever lapsed?"

These questions show the lack of knowledge of the person who wrote it. Many states do not require "registration" schemes. His home state of Illinois require a Firearm Owners Identification card. FOID.

Anyone who really believed Obama is pro 2nd Amendment, I have some carbon credits to sell you.

Considering the level of information that is asked of each applicant, does this not strike anyone as wrong, when viewed in the context that Mr. Obama absolutely refused to give up information on himself, when he could get away with it?

If in fact, Mr. Obama does support the Second Amendment, as he so stated, why would he be concerned about law abiding citizens who follow the illegal laws that are imposed upon us? Are firearms owners second class citizens in his eyes? Is he afraid to annoy those who paid for his election? Is he afraid of us? Is not this the reason the Bill of Rights exist?

When the time comes that an elected President, so fears the citizens, that he/she singles out firearm owners as a seperate class, I am afraid for the Country as a whole.

I am of the opinion that the Constitution of the United States is something that the Obama administration will work very hard to eradicate through legislation.

The Constitution: Void where prohibited by law. To think that I was so mistaken in my belief that Laws were prohibited by the Constitution. Marbury v Madison 1803

This isn't really surprising when the Democratic platform states they wish to "reinstate the AWB and make it permanent". Any gun owners present during such discussions might inject a little logic into the discussion, which would create a challenge to Obama's 'clear leadership on the issues' as we have heard the media tell us repeatedly...

Are all of you just trying to justify your ass-backward right conservative thinking. Obama has been in office one day and all you can say is how he is "Possibly" (for it is not written that way) going to disqualify a job applicant if he or she had a gun. As President of the United States of America don't you think you would want to know this, we're not talking manager of Wal-Mart.

Pearson....... gets a life and stop writing fictional stories. If you need a topic to write about how about how millions of people have been inspired by President Obama in ways the republicans have not seen since Reagan 28 years ago....
