Are Americans Bigger Risk Takers?

Car accident fatalities per 100,000 people is a flawed statistic because it doesn't take into account vehicle-miles traveled. Americans drive a lot more miles than people in most other countries. Taking that into account, the US probably falls somewhere in the middle, if not lower, range of that list.

Thanks for the note. It depends on what question is being asked. If the question is how safe cars are, you would be exactly right. But if the question is the probability that someone will die in a particular year, it is the deaths per person measure that is the one you want.
