You'd think with all the fat unhealthy bodies in the US, it would be harder to overcome such a strong disease...Unless they jsut have better care..

Did the U Penn. researchers also look at how much Medicare pays vs. private insures pay for cancer treatment in the U.S.? Aren't the UPenn statistics really a testament to the Federal government-managed Medicare system that was set up in this country in the mid-1960s to help make sure that people who retire receive proper health care?

John, you're right to congratulate the US on doing well with cancer care. But it's a mistake to think that this means the US health care system is the best in the world. Health outcomes for Americans with insurance and/or money are excellent. The problem lies with the poor and the uninsured. In other developed countries people aren't refused treatment because they don't have insurance and people aren't bankrupted because their health fails. It's shameful that this happens in a wealthy country like the US.
