The real cost of the New York newspaper that published the name and address of gun permit holders

Just one of the stories that shows the real harm from posting these names and addresses on the internet.
"I’ve received e-mails from abused women who were under protective order and in hiding and they’re terribly afraid that now their names and addresses are all over the Internet and accessible through that map.
Obviously there are other costs in that criminals now know who won't be able to defend themselves.

That's what happens when the government keeps files on people. I cannot fathom how one needs anything more than one's Second Amendment rights to carry a gun. Criminals in New York don't get anywhere near the licensing process, so it only serves to abuse the law-abiding. Gun possession is supposed to be a right, not a crime. How can someone be prosecuted for not having a license for possessing something that they have a constitutional right to possess? The right to keep and bear arms should never be the crime of “gun possession“.
